Music Thursday: Natalie MacMaster “NPG”

Because Monday is already taken. This column will feature music I listen to when I write, or maybe sometimes music I just like (and therefore think everyone else should, too).

You’ve heard of “Dueling Banjos,” well here’s dueling fiddle and bagpipes. I love this song for it’s explosive energy. There is some weird synergy between the fiddle and the bagpipes when they play together. The way the notes resonate with one another it almost sounds like a different instrument.

Natalie MacMaster is from Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada, a place that has preserved the musical traditions of Scotland. She is from a musical family, having a multitude of uncles and cousins who are also musicians, Her cousin Matt MacIsaac is the one playing the bagpipes.
