Because Monday is already taken. This column will feature music I listen to when I write, or maybe sometimes music I just like (and therefore think everyone else should, too).
I was born in the South and raised in the South. My family has been in the South as far back as I can trace. Good , bad, or ugly, I will always be Southern. Sweet tea, fried chicken, fireflies, cicadas, church socials, and front porch rocking chairs are all part of who I am. And like any good Southerner, I like to tell stories. This song made me homesick when I heard it for the first time.
“Down in the River to Pray” is an old Southern folk hymn, beautiful in its simplicity and made even more so by the voice of Alison Krauss.
