Music Thursday: Beats Antique “Egyptic”

Because Monday is already taken. This column will feature music I listen to when I write, or maybe sometimes music I just like (and therefore think everyone else should, too).

Three words: steampunk belly dancing. Along the same lines as last week’s featured music, Beats Antique performs music with a Middle Eastern flair, perfect for writing about schemes and plots within the palace harem or dark encounters in the back alleys of Istanbul. They are, however, a bit different. I can’t really explain. You just have to watch:

The steampunk aesthetic doesn’t come through so much in the video, but it’s very evident on their website and their album covers. For example:

And the music, of course, has a sort of mechanical feel, like a hand-cranked music box.
