On Literary Mass Murder

As I was working diligently on my novel the other day, it occurred to me that an inordinate number of people meet their untimely ends at hands of dark supernatural forces. Out of curiosity, I tallied the body count and came up with the number 55.

I didn’t set out to kill that many people. It just sort of happened. I was just writing the story, and whenever the story needed someone to die, I wrote their demise. So really, it’s the story’s fault.

As a lawyer, though, I know that “It was necessary for the plot,” is not a valid defense to murder. Maybe I could talk my way down to manslaughter.
